** CANCELLED **
Please note that the level of passenger demand for the SRHC Ballarat Picnic Train has fallen far short of what was required to viably operate.
A decision has therefore been made to cancel this Heritage Train.
Thanks must go to those that expressed an interest in travelling on this train.
On Saturday 29th May 2010 Ballarat is the destination for the Seymour Railway Heritage Centre’s (SRHC) Heritage Train. The Ballarat Picnic Train will depart Seymour at 7.00 am for the journey to Ballarat via Southern Cross (Melbourne) and North Shore (Geelong). Stops will be made along the North East line to pick up passengers at Broadford (7.25 am), Kilmore East (7.39 am), Wallan (7.55 am), and Essendon (8.35 am) before arriving at Southern Cross Station at 8.49 am.
The train will then depart from Southern Cross Station at 9.37 am. A stop will be made to pick up passengers at North Shore at 10.57 am before the train heads onto Ballarat for an arrival at 12.40 pm.
Ballarat has a lot to offer. Within easy walking distance is the historic Lydiard Street precinct, home to the Art Gallery of Ballarat – the first provincial Art Gallery established in Australia, housing the original Eureka Flag and largest collection of Australian art in regional Australia. There are also local bus services that depart from Central Ballarat making it possible to visit Sovereign Hill, the Botanical Gardens or the Ballarat Tramway Museum.
Theatre Option
The visit of the Picnic Train to Ballarat also coincides with the BLOC Music Theatre production of ‘Singin’ In The Rain’, one of the world’s favourite musicals, being performed at Ballarat’s Her Majesty’s Theatre. This option must be pre-booked; and in order to secure seats for the Theatre it would be appreciated if bookings for the theatre are received by 30 April 2010.
The train departs from Ballarat on the return journey at 5.15 pm. It will arrive at Southern Cross Station at 8.09 pm. The train will depart on the return journey to Seymour at 8.40 pm. Stops will be made to set down passengers at Essendon (8.48pm), Wallan (9.25 pm), Kilmore East (9.45 pm) and Broadford (9.59 pm); before arriving in Seymour soon after 10.26 pm.
On Train Services
The standard railway fares provide travel in comfortable wooden bodied heritage carriages (circa 1906 – 1910) that allow passengers to relive or just experience country rail travel as it was for much of the 20th Century. All passengers on the train will have the opportunity experience a short period of travel in State Car No 4.
A Kiosk and Bar will operate during the course of the journey providing a range of drinks, snacks, hot food and bar lines to enjoy. |
